Webcam Test & Photo Capture

Turn on your camera to confirm it works before a video call, then take photos straight from the browser. The preview shows the resolution your camera is actually delivering, so you can tell a 720p webcam from a 1080p one at a glance, and you can switch between cameras when more than one is connected. A self-timer of 3, 5 or 10 seconds gives you time to get into frame, and the mirror toggle matches what you see to what gets saved. Captured shots collect below the preview and download as JPEG at the camera's full resolution. Nothing is uploaded or recorded: the video stream is handled entirely by your browser, the camera is released as soon as you stop, and closing the tab discards every shot.

How to use

  1. Click Start camera and allow camera access when your browser asks.
  2. Optionally pick a self-timer and choose which camera to use.
  3. Click Take photo, then download the shots you want to keep.

Frequently asked questions

Is my video uploaded or recorded?
No. The stream goes from your camera to the page and no further — there is no server, no recording and no storage. Photos exist only as temporary objects in the tab, so closing it discards them. Stopping the camera releases the device and turns off its indicator light.
The browser will not let me use the camera.
Camera access needs a secure page and your permission. If you dismissed or blocked the prompt, re-enable the camera for this site in the padlock menu in the address bar and reload. Also check that no other app — a video call, for example — is holding the camera.
Why is my webcam resolution lower than advertised?
Browsers negotiate a stream with the camera and may settle on a lower mode depending on lighting, bandwidth and the driver. The resolution shown is what the camera actually delivered for this session, which is the number that matters for how you look on a call.
What does the mirror option change?
Webcam previews are usually mirrored so moving right moves your image right, which feels natural but reverses text. The toggle flips the preview and the saved photo together, so what you see is what you get. Turn it off if you are photographing writing or a label.
