What the tools do with your input

Text you type, numbers you enter and files you open are processed by code on the page and are never sent to us: no server of ours receives tool input, so there is nothing of it for us to store, analyse or share. Tools that use your camera, microphone or screen ask for permission through your browser first, and what they capture stays on the page unless you save it yourself. A few tools download a library or a data file, such as a word list, from this site the first time they need it; those requests carry nothing you entered.

A handful of tools show something hosted on another site, and your browser fetches it from that site directly, which lets that site see your IP address and everything in the address requested: the Lorem Picsum URL Builder (picsum.photos, with the size, seed and other options you set), the Open Graph generator and the Markdown to HTML preview (the image addresses in your input), the vCard parser (a contact photo given as a web address) and the clip-path builder's photo background (images.unsplash.com). In Text to Speech, some voices your browser offers, such as Chrome's Google voices, are online voices, and the browser sends the text to their provider to be spoken.

What is kept in your browser

Many tools remember your last input in your browser's local storage, so it is still there when you come back. That copy exists only on your device: we cannot read it and it is never transmitted. The site also stores your light or dark theme choice and, once you have liked a tool, a flag that tells the page to look up your likes. Clearing this site's data in your browser settings removes all of it.

View and like counts

We count how often each tool is opened and liked. When a tool page loads, your browser asks our server to add one view. So that each visitor is counted once per tool per day, the server combines your IP address and browser user agent (or the like cookie described below, if you have one) with the tool and the date, and stores only a one-way SHA-256 hash of that combination, never the address itself. Hashes older than two days are deleted periodically; the counts themselves are plain totals per tool.

Likes have to remember who liked what, so that a second press removes your like instead of adding another. For that the server sets a cookie named anon containing a random identifier, with no name, email address or account attached to it. It is set only on responses about likes, when you press a like button or when a page looks up the tools you have already liked, and never simply because you opened a page. It is HttpOnly (page scripts cannot read it), is sent only to this site and expires after one year. Against that identifier we store which tools it liked and when. Pressing the button again deletes that like.

Hosting and fonts

The site is served by Cloudflare, and its fonts are loaded from Google Fonts (and, on Korean pages, also from the jsDelivr CDN). Like any web server, these services receive your IP address and basic browser information when your browser requests a page or file from them, so that they can deliver it.

Google Analytics

To learn which tools people use, every page loads Google Analytics. It sets cookies (_ga, and _ga_ followed by an ID) and records standard usage data: the pages you visit and how you arrived, an approximate location derived from your IP address, and your device, browser and screen type. Tool input is never sent to it. Words you type into the site's own search box, however, become part of the results page's address, which Google Analytics records like any other page address.

Google processes this data under its own policy; see how Google uses information from sites that use its services. You can block it with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on or a content blocker, and the tools keep working.

Advertising (Google AdSense)

Some pages show ads served by Google AdSense, which is how the site stays free. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet. If you have not opted out, the cookies of other third-party vendors or ad networks may also be used to serve ads here.

You can turn off personalised advertising in Google's Ads Settings, and opt out of many third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info. Nothing you enter into a tool is passed to AdSense or used to choose ads.

Your choices, deletion and questions

Tool input never reaches us, so there is none of it to delete. Everything kept in your browser goes when you clear this site's data, and you can remove a like by pressing its button again. If you would like every like recorded against your cookie deleted, or have any question about this policy, email the address below and include the value of your anon cookie (your browser's developer tools show it), since that random identifier is the only thing linking those records to you. For data held by Google, use the Google controls linked above.

Changes to this policy

When the site starts or stops collecting something, this page is updated to say so, and the date at the top changes with it.
