Rotate & Flip Video
Turn a sideways or upside-down video the right way up, or mirror it, in your browser. MP4s rotate instantly without re-encoding. Nothing is uploaded.
How to use
- Drop a video or click to choose one.
- Use Rotate left, Rotate right, Flip horizontal and Flip vertical until the preview looks right.
- Keep the fast option on for MP4/MOV files, or untick it to bake the rotation into the frames.
- Press Save, check the result and download it.
About this tool
ShowHide
Open a video, turn it 90° left or right, 180°, or mirror it horizontally or vertically, and the preview shows the result before you save. Phone videos filmed sideways and webcam recordings that come out mirrored are the usual cases. Everything happens in your browser; the video is never uploaded.
There are two ways to save. For MP4 and MOV files with H.264 or HEVC video — what phones and most cameras record — the tool can write a rotation instruction into the file instead of changing the frames. That takes a moment even for long videos and loses no quality at all, because not a single frame is re-compressed. Every modern player, phone and browser honours the instruction, but some older editors, TV media players and upload pipelines ignore it and show the original orientation. Untick the fast option, or use a WebM file, and the tool re-encodes the video with the rotation baked into the pixels, which looks the same everywhere at the cost of time and a slight generational loss.
Re-encoded videos are saved as MP4 with H.264 when your browser can encode it (Chrome, Edge and Safari on most systems) and otherwise as WebM with VP9, which the tool tells you. The sound is kept, copied as it is when the container allows. Turning a video by 90° swaps its width and height, so a 1920 × 1080 landscape clip becomes 1080 × 1920 portrait. Video processing uses the open-source Mediabunny library (MPL-2.0), loaded only when you open a video.
Frequently asked questions
Is my video uploaded?
No. The file is read, rotated and written in your browser with its built-in WebCodecs support. Nothing leaves your device.
What does the fast option do?
For MP4 and MOV files with H.264 or HEVC video, it stores the rotation as an instruction in the file rather than re-encoding the frames. It is almost instant and lossless, and it is how phones record portrait video in the first place.
The rotated file still plays sideways in one program. Why?
That program ignores the rotation instruction. Save again with the fast option unticked: the rotation is then baked into the pixels and every program shows it the same way.
How do I fix a mirrored webcam video?
Press Flip horizontal and save. Webcams often show a mirror image so that moving feels natural, and some apps record it that way.
Does it keep the sound?
Yes. The sound track is copied unchanged where the output format allows, and re-encoded otherwise.
Why is the result a WebM file?
The video had to be re-encoded and your browser cannot encode H.264, as in Firefox and some Linux builds. The tool then uses VP9 in WebM. Use Chrome, Edge or Safari for an MP4.
