About this tool

Show

Drop in a list of names, one per line, say how many you want to draw, and pick the winners in one click. The random numbers come from the Web Crypto API rather than the ordinary generator, and they are drawn with rejection sampling: values that fall in the uneven tail of the 32-bit range are thrown away and re-drawn, so every entry has exactly the same chance instead of the slight bias a plain modulo would introduce. Turn duplicates on for wheel-style draws where the same name can come up again, or off for unique winners, in which case each pick is removed from the pool and you cannot ask for more winners than you have entries. Nothing is uploaded and no result is stored.

Frequently asked questions

How random is it?

Each pick uses crypto.getRandomValues with rejection sampling, so every entry has exactly equal probability — no modulo bias.

What does 'allow duplicates' do?

Off: each winner is unique (sampling without replacement). On: an entry can win more than once (sampling with replacement), useful for spin-the-wheel style draws.

How many entries can I add?

Thousands work fine. The draw is O(n) for unique picks and O(k) when duplicates are allowed.

Are my entries stored?

No — entries live only in this page view and are not uploaded anywhere.

What is rejection sampling and why does it matter?

The generator produces a 32-bit number, and the range you are drawing from rarely divides into it evenly. Taking the remainder would make the first few entries slightly more likely, so values landing in the uneven tail are discarded and redrawn instead. The bias is small, but it is real and avoidable.

Can I use this for a public prize draw?

The draw itself is fair, but fairness you cannot demonstrate is worth little to the people who did not win. Nothing here is recorded or verifiable after the fact, so run the draw where entrants can watch, or use a service that publishes a seed and a proof.
