Gamepad Tester (Buttons and Stick Drift)
Test an Xbox, PlayStation, Switch Pro or other controller in the browser: every button, trigger pressure, stick position and drift, and vibration.
How to use
- Connect the controller by USB or Bluetooth and press any button.
- Press each button and check it turns green, and that each trigger reaches 1.
- Let go of the sticks and check the dots rest inside the centre ring, then try vibration.
About this tool
ShowHide
A controller test that reads a USB or Bluetooth gamepad through the browser's Gamepad API. Nothing to install, and the input never leaves the device.
Connect the controller and press any button: browsers hide gamepads until one is pressed, for privacy. Each button fills while held, and any button pressed at least once keeps a green outline, so pressing them one by one quickly shows a dead one. Pressure-sensitive buttons such as the triggers (LT/RT, L2/R2) show a value from 0 to 1. A controller the browser recognises with the 'standard' layout gets names like A, B, X, Y, LB and RB; others show plain numbers (B0, B1…). On a PlayStation pad, A is ✕, B ○, X □ and Y △.
Each analogue stick is drawn as a dot in a circle. If the dot sits outside the dashed inner ring (radius 0.1) with your thumb off the stick, the stick is drifting. Games usually ignore about that much as a dead zone, but drift above 0.2 can move a character on its own. Roll each stick round the edge to check it reaches the full circle too.
The vibration button works only where the browser supports it (Chrome and Edge). Safari and some Bluetooth connections may hide vibration or buttons such as Home, Share or the touchpad: that is the browser's support, not a fault in the controller.
Frequently asked questions
Nothing appears after connecting.
Browsers show a gamepad only after a button is pressed. Press one; if that fails, try another port, cable or Chrome.
How do I check stick drift?
With your thumb off, the dot should sit inside the dashed centre ring. A resting value above 0.1 that wanders is drift.
Buttons are labelled B0, B1….
The browser did not recognise the standard layout, so buttons are numbered. Presses are still detected.
The vibration button is disabled.
Vibration is only exposed by some browsers (Chrome, Edge) and connections; Safari and Firefox mostly lack it.
How do PlayStation buttons map?
A = ✕, B = ○, X = □, Y = △, LB/RB = L1/R1, LT/RT = L2/R2, Back = Create/Share, Start = Options, LS/RS = L3/R3.
