What Is My Screen Resolution? (Hz and Scaling)
See your screen resolution, physical pixels, scaling (devicePixelRatio), browser window size, refresh rate, colour depth and HDR support at a glance.
How to use
- Open the page: the screen resolution, physical pixels and scaling appear at the top straight away.
- For accurate figures, set the browser zoom to 100% and move the window to the monitor you want to check.
- Read the viewport and window sizes, aspect ratio, refresh rate, colour depth, HDR and touch support in the table; the refresh rate appears after a second or two.
- Press Copy all to copy the whole table as text for a support ticket or bug report.
About this tool
ShowHide
This page shows the display information your browser reports. The screen resolution at the top is in CSS pixels, after the operating system's scaling, so it can differ from the panel's actual pixel count. A 1920×1080 monitor with Windows scaling at 125% reports 1536×864 with a devicePixelRatio of 1.25; multiplying the two gives the physical pixels shown alongside, 1920×1080 in this example.
Phones work the same way. An iPhone 15 reports 393×852 at a ratio of 3, which is 1179×2556 physical pixels. The ratio includes the browser's zoom as well as the system setting, so keep the browser at 100% for accurate figures; with fractional ratios the product can be off by a pixel or two.
Below that are the area the page actually uses inside the browser (the viewport), the space available without the taskbar, the whole browser window, the aspect ratio (16:9, 21:9 and so on) and the orientation. These are the numbers used to set responsive breakpoints, match a screen-share or recording resolution, or choose game and video settings. They update as soon as the window is resized or moved to another monitor.
The refresh rate is measured from how often the browser paints over about one and a half seconds, reported as the median. It normally equals the monitor's rate (60, 120, 144, 165 Hz and so on), but power-saving modes, battery saver and background tabs slow the browser down and some browsers cap it at 60 Hz, so check those settings first if it reads low. Variable-refresh screens (VRR, ProMotion) may read lower when nothing is moving. Colour depth, HDR and colour gamut (sRGB, Display P3, Rec. 2020) are the browser's view of the current connection rather than the panel's full capability, and with HDR switched off in the operating system a capable monitor still reads no. Nothing here is sent anywhere.
Frequently asked questions
My monitor is 1920×1080, so why does it say 1536×864?
Because Windows scaling is set to 125%. Browsers report the screen in CSS pixels after scaling, so 1920 ÷ 1.25 = 1536. The physical pixels line multiplies it back out to 1920×1080.
I have a 144 Hz monitor but it shows 60 Hz.
The operating system's display settings may be set to 60 Hz, the cable or port may not support the higher rate, or a laptop's battery saver may be on. Some browsers also cap painting at 60 Hz, so try another browser too.
What is devicePixelRatio?
It is how many physical screen pixels make up one CSS pixel: the operating system's scaling multiplied by the browser's zoom. Zooming the page with Ctrl and the wheel changes it.
Why does my phone's resolution look so small?
Phones use a ratio of 2 to 3, so in CSS pixels they are around 400 wide. The physical pixels line is the figure manufacturers quote: an iPhone 15 is 393×852 × 3 = 1179×2556.
My monitor supports HDR, so why does HDR say no?
The browser reports whether the operating system is currently outputting HDR. If Windows' Use HDR setting is off, or the cable or port does not carry HDR, it reads no.
