Fuel Cost Calculator

Everyday

Work out what a drive will cost in fuel. Enter the distance, your car's fuel economy and the price of fuel, and the calculator shows the total cost, how much fuel you'll burn, and the cost per kilometre or mile. Switch between metric (kilometres, litres per 100 km, price per litre) and US units (miles, miles per gallon, price per gallon), and tick round trip to double the distance. Useful for budgeting a road trip, comparing routes or cars, splitting fuel costs, or deciding whether to drive or take other transport. Everything is computed locally in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

How is fuel use calculated?
In metric, litres = distance ÷ 100 × (L/100km). In US units, gallons = distance ÷ mpg. The total cost is the fuel amount times the price per litre or gallon.
Where do I find my car's fuel economy?
Check the manufacturer's figure, your trip computer, or work it out from a recent fill-up (distance driven ÷ fuel used). Real-world economy is often a bit worse than the official number.
Does it handle round trips?
Yes — tick the round-trip box and the distance is doubled before the cost is worked out.
Can I use any currency?
Yes. The currency symbol is just a label for display; enter whatever you use and the prices and totals are shown with it.
