Volume Converter

Enter a volume in any common unit and see it in all the others instantly: millilitre (mL), litre (L), cubic metre (m³), US teaspoon (tsp), US tablespoon (tbsp), US fluid ounce (fl oz), US cup, US pint (pt), US quart (qt) and US liquid gallon (gal). The value is converted to litres internally and then to every unit, so conversions are exact. The US customary units are derived from the exact definition 1 US gallon = 3.785411784 L. Handy for cooking and recipes (tsp, tbsp, cup), drinks and bottles (mL, fl oz), and science or everyday measuring. Everything is computed locally in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

Are these US or imperial (UK) units?
The cup, pint, quart, gallon and fluid ounce here are US customary. Imperial (UK) units differ: 1 imperial gallon ≈ 4.546 L (vs 3.785 L US), and 1 imperial pint ≈ 568 mL (vs 473 mL US). If a UK recipe says "pint", it's about 20% larger than a US pint.
How many millilitres is a US cup?
1 US customary cup = 236.588 mL. Note some places use a 240 mL "metric/legal" cup or a 250 mL cup, so cup sizes vary — this tool uses the US customary 236.588 mL cup.
How big is a US gallon in litres?
1 US liquid gallon = 3.785411784 L exactly, which is 4 quarts, 8 pints or 128 fluid ounces. So 1 L ≈ 0.264 US gallons.
Is a fluid ounce a weight?
No. A fluid ounce (fl oz) is a volume, not a weight — despite the name it does not equal one ounce of mass. 1 US fl oz = 29.5735 mL. Whether it weighs about an ounce depends on the liquid's density.
