Ideal Weight Calculator

Everyday

See a reference 'ideal' body weight for your height and sex. The calculator shows four classic clinical formulas side by side — Devine, Robinson, Miller and Hamwi — each in kilograms and pounds, so you can compare them at a glance. It also gives the healthy weight range corresponding to a BMI of 18.5–24.9, which spans a band rather than a single number. Enter your height in centimetres or feet and inches. These are rough references used in medicine for things like drug dosing, not personal targets — real healthy weight depends on build, muscle and many other factors. Everything is computed locally in your browser.

These formulas estimate a reference weight from height and sex — they're not medical advice. The healthy range is the weight for a BMI of 18.5–24.9.

How to use

  1. Choose your sex.
  2. Enter your height in centimetres, or switch to feet and inches.
  3. Compare the four formula estimates (in kg and lb) and the healthy BMI weight range.

Frequently asked questions

Why are there four different formulas?
Devine (1974), Robinson (1983), Miller (1983) and Hamwi (1964) were each derived differently, so they give slightly different numbers. Seeing them together shows the range rather than implying one exact 'correct' weight.
How do the formulas work?
Each starts from a base weight at 5 feet (60 inches) and adds a fixed amount per inch above that, with different constants for men and women. The calculator converts centimetres to inches automatically.
What's the healthy range based on?
It's the weight range that gives a BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 for your height — the standard 'normal weight' band. It's a range because healthy weight isn't a single value.
Is this medical advice?
No. These are reference estimates only. A healthy weight for you depends on body composition, muscle mass, age and more — talk to a healthcare professional for personal guidance.
