Force Converter
Enter a force in any common unit and see it in all the others instantly: millinewton (mN), newton (N), kilonewton (kN), meganewton (MN), dyne (dyn), gram-force (gf), kilogram-force (kgf), metric ton-force (tf), ounce-force (ozf) and pound-force (lbf). The value is converted to newtons internally and then to every unit, so conversions are exact. Handy for physics and engineering (N, kN), mechanics and weight-as-force (kgf, lbf), springs and small loads (gf, ozf, dyn) and structural work (tf, MN). Everything is computed locally in your browser.

How to use
- Type a force value.
- Pick the unit you entered it in.
- Read the value in every other unit and copy whichever you need.
Frequently asked questions
- What is the difference between kgf and N?
- A kilogram-force (kgf) is the force gravity exerts on a 1 kg mass at standard gravity: 1 kgf = 9.80665 N exactly. So a 1 kg object weighs about 9.81 N. kgf is a gravitational unit; the newton is the SI unit.
- How many newtons is one pound-force?
- 1 lbf = 4.4482216152605 N (defined via standard gravity acting on the avoirdupois pound). Conversely 1 N ≈ 0.2248 lbf, and 1 ozf = lbf/16 ≈ 0.2780 N.
- What is a dyne?
- The dyne is the CGS unit of force: 1 dyn = 1 g·cm/s² = 1e-5 N. It shows up in older physics texts and surface-tension values (dyn/cm). One newton equals 100,000 dynes.
- Is force the same as mass or weight?
- No. Mass (kg) is how much matter an object has; force (N) is a push or pull. Weight is the force of gravity on a mass — that's why kgf and lbf exist as "force" versions of mass units, tied to standard gravity 9.80665 m/s².
