Discount & Sale Price Calculator
Everyday
Enter the original price, pick percent-off (slider + quick presets) or fixed amount-off, optionally add a sales tax. The tool shows your savings, the sale price (pre-tax), tax amount, and the final price you actually pay. Useful for checking 'is this Black Friday deal actually 50%?', for stacking 'an extra 10% off the sale price', or for splitting receipt math at a restaurant.
All values are inclusive of the discount, exclusive of tax unless tax % > 0.
How to use
- Enter the original (sticker) price.
- Pick percent-off (use the slider or a quick preset) or amount-off.
- Add a tax % if your region charges sales tax on top of the listed price.
Frequently asked questions
- How is the effective discount % calculated?
- Savings ÷ original price × 100. With percent-off it matches your input; with amount-off it tells you the equivalent percentage.
- Does tax apply to the discount or the sale price?
- Almost universally to the sale price (post-discount). The calculator follows that convention.
- What about stacking discounts (10% then another 10%)?
- Two 10%-off discounts = 19% off (1 − 0.9 × 0.9), not 20%. Apply one discount, then enter the result as the new 'original' and apply the second.
- Why doesn't 50% off feel like half price?
- It is half price pre-tax. But anchoring to the original price, even a 50% discount can still feel expensive if the original was inflated for 'MSRP' purposes.
