Frequently asked questions

Are these quotes actually verified?
Each entry is paired with the author it's most commonly attributed to. We use the well-known short forms; the originals (especially the Greek and Chinese ones) are obviously not in English. Treat famous-quote attributions with healthy skepticism.
Where do tech quotes come from?
Mostly from talks, mailing lists, and books — Donald Knuth's TeX papers, Linus Torvalds on the Linux kernel mailing list, Phil Karlton's interview, Arthur C. Clarke's third law of prediction.
Can I get the same quote twice in a row?
Not from the shuffle button — it picks a different index when the pool has more than one item.
