Random Quote Generator
Random
A small, hand-picked set of well-attributed quotations from philosophers, writers, technologists, and proverbs. Pick a category to narrow down the pool or stay on All; hit the shuffle button to get a fresh one. Quotes are kept short enough to fit on a slide or a sticky note.
The unexamined life is not worth living.
How to use
- Pick a category — or leave it on All for the full pool.
- Hit the shuffle button until something resonates.
- Copy to paste into a slide, journal, or message.
Frequently asked questions
- Are these quotes actually verified?
- Each entry is paired with the author it's most commonly attributed to. We use the well-known short forms; the originals (especially the Greek and Chinese ones) are obviously not in English. Treat famous-quote attributions with healthy skepticism.
- Where do tech quotes come from?
- Mostly from talks, mailing lists, and books — Donald Knuth's TeX papers, Linus Torvalds on the Linux kernel mailing list, Phil Karlton's interview, Arthur C. Clarke's third law of prediction.
- Can I get the same quote twice in a row?
- Not from the shuffle button — it picks a different index when the pool has more than one item.
